How does Fertility Acupuncture work?

Fertility Acupuncture stimulates blood flow & hormone secretion. It stimulates secretion of endorphins (happy hormones), Progesterone, Oestrogen as well as numerous other hormones depending on where the needles are inserted & how they are stimulated. Fertility Acupuncture has a similar effect as fertility drugs offered by Western fertility clinics. If Acupuncture is combined with moxibustion the therapeutic effects are greatly enhanced. See diagram to RIGHT.

Since acupuncture stimulates hormone secretion & blood flow, it is very effective in treating infertility, fertility issues, depression, & menstrual pain. For this reason a relaxed and calm feeling is experienced during & after acupuncture.
Fertility Acupuncture is very effective where there is an obstruction of qi and or blood flow creating pain or numbness such as uterine fibroids, ovarian cysts, irregular menstruation, PCOS, & period pain.

Changes in brain chemistry, sensation, and involuntary body functions: Acupuncture alters brain chemistry by changing the release of neurotransmitters and neurohormones through stimulation of the pituitary gland. Thus directly affecting fertility, sexual desire, ovaries, follicles & the uterus & gonads. In the clinical study published in the Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine June; 13(2): 115- 9, acupuncture appears to be able to stimulate ovulation as well as regulate ovulatory problems. The researchers found that acupuncture was able to increase progesterone levels and regulate FSH, LH and estrogen levels, all of which can have a positive effect on pregnancy rates. Acupuncture also affects the parts of the central nervous system related to sensation and involuntary body functions, such as immune reactions and processes whereby a person's blood pressure, blood flow, and body temperature are regulated.

Conduction of electromagnetic signals: Scientific evidence suggests that acupuncture points are strategic conductors of electromagnetic signals. Stimulation of acupuncture points along these pathways relays electromagnetic signals at a greater rate than under normal conditions. These signals stimulate the flow of pain-killing biochemicals, such as endorphins, and of immune system cells to specific sites in the body that are injured or vulnerable to disease.

Activation of opioid systems: Research has found that acupuncture stimulates the release of opioids. Pain may be reduced by the release of several types of opioids into the central nervous system during acupuncture treatment.
