I have had acupuncture & Chinese medicine before to help fall pregnant. It did not work. Why should I trust you?
Our clinic specializes in the treatment of fertility. The acupuncture employed in our clinic is specialised & unique. It is developed solely for infertility. And thus you will not find this kind of acupuncture used by your average acupuncturist. We treat many patients each day solely for infertility related issues. Thus we have gained a fare amount of experience in regards to infertility. Our herbs are not the same as other Chinese medicine clinics. Since we specialise in this sort of treatment we have herbs specially prepared to our specifications which are shipped from China, Korea, Taiwan, & Hong Kong. These single herbs are cooked & prepared to traditional specifications so that an enhanced effect is produced when used in a formula. These herbs differ greatly from those stocked by your average Chinese herbalist. Thus our herbs alone give a greater effect.

IVF, when should I start acupuncture?
As soon as you know that you want to conceive using IVF, IUI, , ICSI, ART etc please contact our clinic to begin preparation. Preparation treatment for IVF should begin several months prior to implantation of the embryo. Preparation prior to transfer can make a vast difference to the fertilisation and can improve the implantation success

IVF & infertility. How often should I have treatments for my infertility?
Usually twice a week including Chinese medicine is enough to gain a positive pregnancy.  The length, frequency, and effectiveness of acupuncture treatment for infertility depends heavily on the patient's specific disorder, lifestyle, and overall health.

Natural Conception, I have seen a lot of scientific literature that shows acupuncture can help women who are undergoing IVF, but can it also help those who are trying to conceive naturally?
Most definitely. Many of my patients who have undergone treatment for IVF preparation at my clinic have eventually not needed to proceed with IVF as they conceived naturally. Many of the same mechanisms are treated whether for a natural conception or an assisted IVF conception.

After Conception, Will I still need treatment after I am pregnant?
Yes you will. Falling pregnant is only half the process. If you are going through IVF, experienced a failed IVF transfer, or you have miscarriaged before then you will need help to make sure you can carry your baby through to full term.

IVF & infertility, Can acupuncture help me after I become pregnant?
Yes. Acupuncture & Chinese medicine can dramatically help to decrease the chances of miscarriage after falling pregnant, help your overall health, and prevent postpartum depression. Once you realize that you are pregnant please stay in touch with the doctor so that acupuncture or Chinese medicine may be prescribed to minimise miscarriage. Acupuncture & Chinese medicine treatment after falling pregnant will also produce a much healthier baby.

IVF, I am over 40 years old and suffering from infertility. Can acupuncture still help me?
Many of our patients who have successfully conceived have been over 40. Acupuncture & Chinese Medicine can help with many of the effects aging can have on a woman's reproductive system.

Infertility – My FSH levels are too high for IVF. Can these be lowered with Chinese Medicine?
Yes. FSH can be lowered with Chinese medicine. I have treated this before with excellent results. Sometimes acupuncture may need to be combined with western medical hormonal stimulation. Most cases can be helped. Depending on the cause of the elevated FSH levels, time frames for treatment differ. Regardless of the cause, FSH can be decreased.

Infertility – Why is Chinese Medicine able to achieve results that conventional medicine cannot for IVF/ ART?
Chinese medicine is able to increase hormones specific to the problem of each patient. Thus each patient is treated differently. Western medicine gives all IVF/ ART/ IUI/ patients the same drugs. Thus only a few patients will conceive if all are taking the same drugs. Chinese medicine treatment affects the lining of the uterus in a way that Western medicine cannot. Chinese medicine also affects the follicles of the ovaries, the eggs, the sperm, & even libido (sexual desire).

Infertility – Can Dang Gui & other over the counter remedies help?
Please be careful taking these remedies. Dang gui is not for every woman. Dang Gui invigorates the blood in & around the uterus & thus can hinder conception for some women. Dang Gui is known by many western women to help with infertility. Actually it can help some with infertility, though it can also decrease the chances of conceiving for others. This is also true if it is taken at the wrong time of the month. Western doctors & naturopaths still do not understand Chinese herbs correctly.

Diet – Will I be instructed on what foods to avoid?
Yes. A diet of eating fresh vegetables, fresh fruits and meats is not enough as it may be damaging your internal organs. You will be instructed on what to eat as there are various body types.

Length of Treatment – How long do I need to be treated by Chinese Medicine/ Acupuncture?
If you have previously failed one or more IVF cycles then you will need a longer treatment time than someone undergoing their first IVF cycle. Failing one or more IVF cycles indicates that there is some part of your reproductive system malfunctioning. And you would need this to be corrected which may take a few months.

Acupuncture – What is acupuncture?
Acupuncture is the insertion of fine hair like needles at specific points on the body with the application of warm moxibustion. The patient will usually feel a sensation of lightness, dull heaviness, & or warmth in the diseased & problematic area needing treatment. A relaxed sensation of sleepiness will usually follow after the needles are inserted.

Moxibustion – Why use moxibustion?
Moxibustion is an integral part of any acupuncture treatment. If an acupuncturist does not apply moxibustion only a minimal effect will be achieved. Moxibustion enhances the effect of the needles inserted by up to 50%.

Acupuncture – Are disposable needles used?
Our clinic only uses sterilized, high quality disposable needles.

Acupuncture – Is acupuncture painful?
Acupuncture is usually not painful.

Acupuncture – What is a meridian/channel?
A meridian / channel is a line made up by connecting pressure points. Similar to a dot to dot drawing. Conventional acupuncture inserts needles along these lines.

Acupuncture – What is the difference between conventional acupuncture & other styles?
Approximately 99% of acupuncturists practice conventional acupuncture. This is one style using channels & meridians which encompasses Japanese, Chinese, & Korean acupuncture. There are other styles which do not use meridians. These other styles can be used when conventional acupuncture does not produce positive results.
Top....

Acupuncture – Are other styles of acupuncture effective?
Yes they are. Non meridian acupuncture produces much faster results than conventional acupuncture. When all styles are combined in a treatment very positive results are achieved. Other styles of acupuncture may be utilized by those acupuncturists who specialise in any given department of medicine.

Acupuncture – How does Medical Acupuncture differ to Traditional Acupuncture in Australia?
Medical Acupuncture is practiced by Gps / doctors. Their understanding of acupuncture is limited as they only undertake very limited acupuncture study & short courses. They do not use Chinese pulse / tongue diagnosis or moxibustion treatment. Which are imperative to proper acupuncture treatment if a good result is to be obtained. Hopefully in the future Gps / Doctors will study this area in detail.

Herbs – How do I take the herbs?
Each patient will be instructed how to take the herbs when they collect them.
Top....

Herbs – Can you cook the herbs for me?
Yes. No cooking is necessary for the patient. All patient’s medicines are cooked and packaged by us. Once they are cooked we will package them into sachets so that each dosage can be taken easily.

Herbs – Do I need to drink the herbs at home?
No. Since the herbs are packaged into sachets the can be drunk any where.

Diagnosis – What is Oriental pulse diagnosis?
Oriental pulse diagnosis is more than feeling the heart rate as with western medicine. Without pulse diagnosis it is very difficult for the acupuncturist to know where to insert the needles or what herbs to select. Pulse diagnosis gives a very detailed picture of the patient's present internal state.
Top....

Diagnosis – Can Oriental pulse diagnosis detect disease?
With oriental pulse diagnosis internal disharmonies & malfunction are detected. Sometimes disharmonies & disease are detected by pulse diagnosis before conventional medical tests detect them. Pulse diagnosis is an integral part of Oriental medicine. Oriental pulse diagnosis can detect whether you are ready to enter an IVF programme or not. As well as detecting whether you are pregnant or not

Will I need to return regularly?
Yes you will. Infertility can be cured but it needs constant treatment to alter the hormones, uterine lining, eggs, follicles, & sperm. You will be asked to take Chinese medicine & return twice per week for acupuncture.

Band aid solution – Is Chinese Herbal Medicine/Acupuncture just a band aid solution?
No they are not band aid solutions. Chinese medicine is much more effective than Western medicine in regards to Infertility (male & female). Once the patient stops taking treatment the symptoms should not regress. Chinese Herbal Medicine/ Acupuncture treats the cause to prevent the condition from returning rather than just treating the symptoms.
